As the ČTK keeps strengthening its cooperation with the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University, its editors will play the role of lectors of Agency Journalism at the Faculty's Department of Journalism starting this summer term. This bachelor programme will be organised by the ČTK Academy and the lessons will take place at the ČTK seat in Opletalova Street.
"Thanks to PhDr. Trunečková, news agencies have always been given large place in our courses, but we wished to supplement the theory with practical training right inside the Czech News Agency. This will enable our students to prepare better for their career and see the world of high-quality news close," said Alice Němcová Tejkalová, the guarantor of the course and a former dean of the faculty.
The introductory seminar was held on Thursday, February 17 by Jan Stejskal, a long-time ČTK correspondent, editor-in-chief and former management member and the author of comprehensive publication Zprávy z českého století (News from the Czech Century) (Photo by ČTK, 2022)
In the newly designed seminar, students will get acquainted with the functioning of the news agency and various news formats, the work with sources and their verification and will learn to use the ČTK Databank. "Editors will work with the students in the ČTK building, introducing them to the specifics of the work of a political, economic, foreign or sports reporter or a photo reporter. In addition to theoretical explanation, the lessons will be focused on practical examples from current work with news, "said ČTK Academy head Martina Vašíčková.

Jan Stejskal, a long-time correspondent and editor-in-chief of the Czech News Agency and the author of comprehensive publication News from the Czech Century, will give a lecture on the history of European news agencies as well as the national news agency. Editor-in-Chief Radka Matesová Marková will introduce the principles of daily and weekly work with news to students. Editors from individual newsrooms will then introduce students to economic, foreign or sports news coverage.
The ČTK cooperates with universities on a long-term basis, providing them with news, cooperating on scientific projects, and enabling student internships. Since 2017, it has been organizing the ČTK Summer School for university students. This year, it will for the third time take place at the Summer Film School in Uherské Hradiště, with ČTK being one of the main media partners.
