ČTK will start testing automatically generated news from the Prague Stock Exchange, and hopes that in in the future, it will be also able to generate news about weather or sports in Czech. The tool used by the news agency was created by scientists of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Charles University (FSV UK), Czech Technical University (CTU), University of West Bohemia (UWB) in cooperation with ČTK.
"The algorithms we developed are now able to generate seven basic reports without the intervention of journalists, in just one second," Václav Moravec, head of the research team at the Department of Journalism at the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University in Prague said. According to him, the scope of the report corresponds to standard news texts published by CTK every week after the Prague Stock Exchange closes.
ČTK generated news items for the first time in October 2018 during the municipal and senate elections. From the data of the Czech Statistical Office, the program developed in ČTK created reports on the interim and final results of elections according to pre-prepared templates. Over 200 automatically generated texts passed through the hands of the editors during the election day.
