Prague, Nov 20 (CTK) - The photo of an orangutan female with her dying young, warning of the destruction of the wild in Borneo, by Lukas Zeman, won the annual Czech Press Photo competition today.
This time, the international jury did not select a photo with a clear political message from inside or outside the country. The winning picture has a global reach, the jury said.
The jury gave further awards in eight categories and a Prague Grant for further documentation of the transformation of the city. It was won by freelance photographer Tomas Vocelka for his project Under Prague Towers.
The jury evaluated the work by 430 photographers who competed with 6,456 photographs.
In the video category, there were contributions from 26 authors with 41 video recordings.
In the Lifestyle category, the first place went to CTK reporter Roman Vondrous with his series Fashion at Horse Races.
Within Czech Press Photo, CTK bestows its own prize, this time given to Ivana Jasminska for her photo Digital detox.
The main victorious photo also won the first place in the category Nature, Science and the Environment.
The News category was won by Michal Cizek from AFP. His photo captures Prime Minister Andrej Babis when expressing gratitude to the head of his election campaign, Marek Prchal, after the victory of Babis's ANO in the October 2017 general election.
The award-giving ceremony was held at the Prague Old Town Hall, an exhibition of the selected photos and videos will be held until January 30.
